Home infusion billing and coding is complex. Home infusion is paid differently by public and private payers. Public reimbursement mechanisms haven’t kept pace with the private sector and Medicare does not pay for most home infusion therapies.

Both public and private payers require documentation such as plans of care, doctors' orders, and nurses notes before sending payment. Home infusion claims take longer to be paid than any other sector of healthcare.
