Mobile Services . . .Bringing patients and consumers the most up-to-date diagnostic and treatment capabilities at your convenience…(800) 715-1214.
In 1985, a group of hospitals recognized that affordability of new technology and patient convenience were at a cross roads. Could every hospital or other health care facility afford the latest technology and the constant updates required? Wonderful and improved diagnostic and treatment are available and continue to be developed and must patients have to always travel great distances in order to have these services available? Services normally were in large cities, hours away from rural areas and smaller hospitals. The first mobile MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) in Pennsylvania…a diagnosis device that did not use x-rays and permitted the physician to see behind organs and bone…was developed and implemented as the answer to these questions.
A mobile service of the latest technology, equal to or superior to what was found miles away in the larger cities, was born from the fact that patients, anywhere, deserved the best technology available. Vantage became the first Pennsylvania organization in the region to have a “mobile” MRI that would go to smaller, rural hospitals and provide this high-tech service to patients.
Patients do not need to travel for service, the service can travel to the patient.
In 1990, Vantage created its Mobile Services division and added mobile Lithotripsy technology. Lithotripsy is a non-invasive treatment for kidney stones. It uses concentrated shock waves generated outside the body, to break up the stones into small pieces that can be eliminated from the body normally. Lithotripsy was found to be gentler on the patient leading to a quick recovery since there was no hospitalization. This meant the patient was back to their normal routine and life rapidly compared to surgery or lazer treatments that were invasive to the body.
As a mobile service, the service comes to the patient and is scheduled by the physician and healthcare facility. It was cost-effective as the provider pays for only the days of service that are scheduled eliminating the fixed costs for the technology.
Today Vantage has expanded its mobile services to include Positron Emission Tomography along with Computer Tomography capability (called PET/CT). This diagnostic technology differentiates diseased tissue and provides multi-dimensional imaging and color contrasts that can identify disease and treatment effectiveness unseen by physicians.
Ultrasound is another diagnostic addition to the Vantage service menu. Though not a new technology, Vantage’s “new approach” is to take this ultrasound capability in a mobile unit and make it available to the consumer. Consumers have demanded this service as a way to provide a look at circulation and to predict or determine the probability or risk of strokes and other circulatory issues of concern.
The concept of bringing services to patients and consumer, rather than making the patient or consumer travel to the service was began in 1985. Today, Vantage carries this concept in multiple states to more markets than any other provider in the region.
