For many years hospitals cleaned their linen on-site, including their patient room linens as well as preparing operating room packs and wraps for surgery, scrubs and lab costs, wash cloths, linen sheets in operating rooms, and so on. As the cost of equipment became more expensive, large commercial laundries began to enter the market. It soon became more cost-effective for hospitals to outsource this service.
